Rather, telemark sweet spot and even the "stadium gigs" are clearly past. We telemarkers are relegated to skiing's fringe (lunatic enough to work hard at something tricky, counter intuitive, and elusive?) What now? I'm going to keep enjoying the couple of other turns that I can make free heel that alpine skiers will never experience, riding that long edge is addictive. Why not? As long as I can find a decent boot and bindings, it's all good, yes? I decided in Highschool that success was waking up each day and looking forward to going to work. There are days when that doesn't happen, but more often than not it does. I have seen many people leave the industry seeking "success" in other fields. Although I am fairly convinced that just being in a different industry was a success for most of them. I often have had people ask me "when are you going to get a real job? Just one good sandwich can drive the function, but many good sandwiches is a more relevant measure. One example is athletic footwear in Portland, OR where you have Nike, Adidas, Columiba/Montrail, Lacrosse, and others. Look at Montebelluna, Italy for Ski Boots.

One negative of Vermont - non-compete clauses are enforceable. Like California and other states, make non-complete clauses illegal and unenforceable and you start to create a cluster where minds can gather, split, re-gather, etc.

The state legislature would have to pass the law given court precedents established in Vermont. In fact, Vermont is one of the few states that actually allows an employer to fire someone who refuses to sign a non-compete.

Just one thought.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-2346195034140010062011-05-06T08:05:27.325-04:002011-05-06T08:05:27.325-04:00NiceNiceAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-64303969711726028442011-05-05T10:07:13.101-04:002011-05-05T10:07:13.101-04:00I'm sure it was a Mountainsmith Day lumbar in ...I'm sure it was a Mountainsmith Day lumbar in classic Red and Yellow...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-33235693225993835022011-04-28T18:29:05.231-04:002011-04-28T18:29:05.231-04:00You have a fanny pack? You have a fanny pack?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-72721916531207790192011-01-12T12:57:15.537-05:002011-01-12T12:57:15.537-05:00really good thank you for sharing.really good thank you for sharing.acai optimumhttp://hubpages.com/hub/acai-optimum-noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-28845375077255469312010-12-05T21:09:11.535-05:002010-12-05T21:09:11.535-05:00Thanks Drew for some good Milton H. info. (e.g. For my house 700 gal propane = 18737 kWh per year which over 3X our eletrical usage) I've always thought that the abstration created by different energy units when used for electricity (kWh), heat (BTU's, gallons of differnt fuels) , and transport (gallons) decrease our energy awareness and frugality.
On that vein I would lobby for our "big ass thermometer" (YES!) to be measured in kWh per year. Different colors for the different types of energy usage (elec, heat, transport) Measuring in PV acres doesn't reflect the mix of efficiency and different renewables that can address the displacement goal.
Wouldn't it be powerful to start a Valley Wide awareness movement about total energy footprint!?!? Bonus: Big users (Sugarbush) would have to step-up and show some progress in energy reduction. Could the MRV energy wiki support folks creating an account that logged their electrical and heating fuel usage and milage? Maybe GMP could automatically upload our usage if we gave permission. This would be on a volunteer basis of course...

PS - 1 kW of ground mount solar probably doesn't produce 1250 kWh/yr. (A 3 kW solar tracker produces about 4200kWh. or 1400kWh/kW) 1 kW of ground mount PV in Vermont produces more like 1000kWh / year.Jesse Stowellnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-90907047626648705432010-10-26T23:33:16.360-04:002010-10-26T23:33:16.360-04:00Great post Drew! Agreed a constructive conversati...Great post Drew! Agreed a constructive conversation starts with a number like this. Glad to see to see it started. It would be good to understand how far into the 211 we are so far and keep tracking it. What are we at so far, maybe 10-20 acres out of 211? A few folks and I started a study of the energy consumption in the Mad River Valley about a year ago (see mrvenergy.org), but that was a bottom up process. I really like how these state averages short cut that whole process to get you to the 211 number. One other thing to consider: Instead of figuring out how to get to 211 acres of solar farm going, we could also consider trying to lower the number acres devoted to renewable energy generation through energy efficiency (e.g. more insulation, higher MPG) and energy conservation (e.g. drive less, turn down the thermometer). In any case, I love the number. There should be a big ass thermometer sign in the middle of town showing everyone how we are doing against this number until we lick this one.

Thanks again,
StanStannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9506255.post-31078126758656942362010-10-15T17:27:51.982-04:002010-10-15T17:27:51.982-04:00mark--
